Peking Express: The Lincheng Outrage, 1923
APPROXIMATE COMMITTEE SIZE: 15-20 delegates
On May 5th, 1923, a passenger train traveling from Shanghai to Beijing was ambushed by over a thousand bandits, many of them disbanded soldiers from China’s fractured warlord armies. Nearly 300 passengers were taken hostage, including Chinese citizens and several foreign nationals, plunging the nation into a sudden international crisis. As news of the attack spreads, tensions rise among the warlords vying for power, the central government struggling to assert control, and the foreign powers demanding protection for their citizens.
COMMITTEE DETAILS
In this committee, delegates will represent members of the Chinese government, local warlords, and foreign envoys sent to mediate the crisis. Cooperation, strategy, and quick thinking will be essential as the situation grows more volatile by the hour. With hundreds of lives and China’s sovereignty at stake, delegates must decide whether diplomacy or force will bring the hostages home.
