DistrictMUN Delegate Policies

Delegate Code of Conduct

The DistrictMUN Secretariat and Staff will handle violations of the guidelines listed below on a case-by-case basis. Failure to abide by these guidelines could result in expulsion from the conference.

  1. Western Business Attire (WBA) is requested of all participants while committees are in session. DistrictMUN understands that not all delegates could have WBA. Business casual is a recommended substitute for WBA. Regardless, delegates will not be penalized for their attire.

  2. Delegates are expected to abide by the DistrictMUN Covid Policy, which includes wearing masks throughout the conference including during committee sessions.

  3. Excessive noise will not be allowed.

  4. Participants will not harass or disrupt other participants or Georgetown University students, faculty, staff, or visitors. 

  5. All delegates must be in their assigned committee rooms throughout committee sessions. Delegates are expected to be on time to all committee sessions and mandatory events.

  6. Conference identification—nametags and/or wristbands—must be worn visibly at all times while on Georgetown’s campus

  7. Tobacco products of any kind are prohibited.

  8. Use or possession of marijuana products or paraphernalia, and any other illegal substance is strictly prohibited for all delegates.

  9. Use or possession of alcohol is strictly prohibited for all delegates.

  10. Possession of facsimile weapons (including laser light pens) is not permitted.

  11. Delegates are expected to be respectful and mindful of all national cultures.

  12. Delegates are not permitted to use cellphones in committee sessions. In exceptional, emergency cases, a delegate should step outside to use his or her cellphone.

  13. Delegates will act in accordance with Georgetown University guidelines, District of Columbia Law and all DistrictMUN policies.

  14. Participants are expected to comply with instructions of DistrictMUN staff who are charged with the enforcement of these codes.

  15. Sexual Harassment and Discrimination are not permitted - DistrictMUN will not tolerate any instances of discrimination based on race, color, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual identity, national origin, religion, age, socioeconomic status, and/or ability. If any delegate or advisor believes they have encountered discrimination, which has resulted in a hostile working environment, they should bring it to the attention of the DistrictMUN Secretariat. They may also bring it to the attention of any member of DistrictMUN Staff. DistrictMUN will involve the appropriate personnel, which may include advisors, and will take appropriate action which may include:

    1. Suspension from committee,

    2. Disqualification from individual awards,

    3. Expulsion from DistrictMUN without refund,

    4. Ban the individual or delegation from attending DistrictMUN in the future, and/or

    5. Any other action deemed necessary and appropriate.

Campus Guidelines

Any infringement of the campus guidelines may be referred to Georgetown University staff members or, at their request, the Georgetown University Police Department, for investigation and adjudication. Violations of these regulations may also result in action by the DistrictMUN Secretariat or Staff.

  1. Use of any non-conference related space on Georgetown’s campus is prohibited.

  2. Smoking inside of any university buildings is not permitted.

  3. Throwing objects out of campus windows is prohibited.

  4. Propping open of doors that are required to be closed to comply with fire regulations is not permitted.

  5. Burning of incense, candles, or other substances on university property is not allowed.

  6. It is expected that advisors and participants will abide by requests of any Georgetown University affiliated staff members regarding the use of University space. 

District of Columbia Law

Any suspected violations of District of Columbia Law will be referred to the Georgetown University Police Department and/or the Metropolitan Police Department for investigation and adjudication. Violations of these regulations may also result in action by the DistrictMUN Secretariat

  1. Theft, assault, battery, or other crimes against persons or property is against DC Law.

  2. No object may be used in a dangerous manner.

  3. Possession, purchase, storage, sale and/or consumption of any illegal substance by any DistrictMUN participant or advisor is prohibited.

Social Media Policy

Delegates should not be using Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, Yik Yak, or any other kind of social media during committee sessions. Outside of committee sessions, delegates should practice appropriate behavior on these sites and apps. Inappropriate postings and/or bullying via social media will not be tolerated, and students found in violation of this policy may face i) Disqualification from awards, ii) Suspension from the remainder of committee sessions, and iii) Dismissal from the conference.

Photo Policy

All delegates and advisors may be documented, either in photographic or video form, at points throughout the conference by DistrictMUN Staff, and/or outside press. If you would not like to be photographed/videoed, make a note below and all available efforts will be made to keep staff/Press Corps/press out of relevant areas.

Programming Policy

All delegates participating in programming are doing so at their own risk. The Delegate Code of Conduct is expected to be followed while participating in programming. DistrictMUN, Georgetown University, and the Georgetown International Relations Association (GIRA) do not take responsibility for any theft, accident, or emergency that occurs while participating in programming.

CODES OF CONDUCT AND Release FORMS

Delegate Code of Conduct and Medical Waiver Forms must be turned in for each student before the conference. All forms must be submitted by March 24th, 2025. DistrictMUN requires all participants to sign and abide by this Code to guarantee a respectful and positive learning environment.

PRIVACY POLICY

The DistrictMUN Executive in consultation with the Georgetown International Relations Association, Inc, the Georgetown International Relations Club, and Georgetown University determine the confidentiality of submitted data through the Codes of Conduct and Medical Waivers. The Secretary-General has access to electronic records, and are responsible for developing procedures for collecting, maintaining, and using this information based on DistrictMUN policy and applicable state and federal laws. They will ensure that those granted access to the information know its security requirements. 

The classification Confidential Information covers sensitive information about individuals, including information identified in the General Release Form. Information receiving this classification requires a high level of protection against unauthorized disclosure, modification, destruction, and use.

After the conclusion of the conference, the Secretary-General will ensure that the information is permanently and confidentially destroyed within one month.
