About DistrictMUN

The District of Columbia Model United Nations (DistrictMUN) is the newest Model UN conference for Middle School Students on the circuit. The conference will experience its fourth in-person iteration in Spring 2024. DistrictMUN was born out of NAIMUN, the oldest UN simulation for high school students in North America and the world. The conference has been created to serve the large Middle School MUN community and to prepare them for public speaking, introduce them to debate, and educate them about international affairs in an engaging and fun manner. More information regarding dates and other logistics are coming soon.

DistrictMUN is organized by the Georgetown International Relations Association, Inc (GIRA) in partnership with the International Relations Club of Georgetown University. GIRA is a non-profit organization that seeks to design meaningful exchanges that inspire, educate, and empower the next generation of leaders in government, business, and international affairs. DistrictMUN is staffed and managed by undergraduate students from Georgetown University, all of whom have keen interest and substantial understanding of international relations.

Our Mission

We endeavor to provide an educational, enriching, and fun experience in international relations to students interested in engaging with topics pertinent to the world around them. We want students to learn tools in diplomacy and negotiating through stimulating Model UN simulations. Ultimately DistrictMUN belongs to the delegates, general staffers, and advisors who we hope will make it the finest Middle School Model UN conference in the Northeast. It is this collective spirit that we hope will guide DistrictMUN and drive it in the future.

Student Empowerment

We believe that every student who comes to DistrictMUN should walk away more proficient in the critical 21st-century skills of public speaking, leadership, and writing. The staffers are relentless in this pursuit, striving to ensure that every delegate gets to speak, that every student can guide discussion and lead, and most importantly, that every delegation has the opportunity to contribute. Because these abilities are incredibly important, the day is used to sharpen every delegate’s skills to the best of each committee’s potential, be it speaking in front of dozens in a large General Assembly, or by forging consensus in a small crisis committee. DistrictMUN is so much more than a run-of-the-mill Model UN conference because it actively goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the success and empowerment of all attendees.
