Q: WHAT IS DISTRICTMUN AND WHO STAFFS THE CONFERENCE?

A: District Model United Nations is a Model UN conference held for middle school students by the International Relations Club of Georgetown University in partnership with the Georgetown International Relations Association, Inc, which organizes NAIMUN, the largest student-run conference in the world. DistrictMUN is organized and staffed by Georgetown University students, many of whom compete on the Georgetown Model UN team.

q: who should attend districtmun?

DistrictMUN caters to Middle School students in 6th to 8th grade of all skill levels and familiarity with Model UN. Whether your delegate has never done Model UN or is already familiar with the concept, we welcome them to attend.

Q: WHAT KIND OF COMMITTEES DOES DISTRICTMUN RUN?

A: DistrictMUN strives to offer committees that cater to delegates of all skill levels and interests. We are excited to offer two General Assemblies-style committees and two crisis committees. With a wide variety of topics, delegates can learn more about the world while practicing leadership and public speaking skills.

Before Conference

q: when is the registration deadline?

A: To learn more about pricing and timeline, please visit the Registration page on the DistrictMUN website. Both schools and independent delegations are welcome to register.

q: who should i contact for changes in delegation size?

A: Changes in delegation size must be confirmed by the Director of Outreach. If you wish to add or remove spots from your delegation, please email s.saccone@modelun.org and a.asudani@modelun.org, so that we can proceed with issuing an updated invoice or processing relevant refunds.

q: when will i get my committee and country assignments?

A: Committee assignments will be sent to delegates in mid-March. Please note that assignments will only be sent once we have received your payment or documentation of payment processing. Committee assignments are not distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis.

q: when will background guides be posted?

A: Background Guides will be posted on the individual committee pages in February/March 2025. Once you have received your committee assignments, you can access the Background Guides.

q: Are position papers required?

A: Position papers are required to be eligible for awards. If your delegate requests feedback on their position paper, our staff will review it and make comments. All position papers should be submitted electronically or in person no later than the end of the first committee session if they are to be reviewed with feedback. Delegates should consult the Background Guide for any additional instructions from the dias on position papers.

q: one of my delegates has a question about their committee. who should they reach out to?

A: Delegates with questions about topics, position papers, or content should reach out to the chair or crisis manager for their committee. Their emails can be found on the committee’s page on the DistrictMUN website and in the Background Guide. Additionally, delegates can also email the Secretary-General at a.asudani@modelun.org if they are unable to get ahold of their committee staff or have further questions.

During Conference

q: is there a dress code for the conference?

A: We ask that all delegates dress in Western Business Attire during the conference. However, attire should not be a barrier to participation. Business casual is a recommended alternative if a delegate does not have access to Western Business Attire. Furthermore, delegates will face no penalty whatsoever based on attire.

q: I am an advisor or parent and want to observe A committee. How can I do so?

A: We welcome parents and teachers to observe their delegates in action throughout the conference. Advisors should refrain from interrupting any committee proceedings, however. Any concerns arising in-conference regarding committee substance should be raised to the DistrictMUN Secretariat.

q: Will LUNCH be provided for delegates and advisors?

A: Yes. DistrictMUN will provide lunch to all participants. DistrictMUN will offer vegetarian and gluten-free options. Dietary preferences should be communicated to a.asudani@modelun.org and s.saccone@modelun.org upon registration.
