#KathmanDoom: the Nepalese Youth Movement, 2025
APPROXIMATE COMMITTEE SIZE: 15-20 delegates
In September 2025, the government of Nepal imposed a nationwide ban on social media platforms, citing national security and the need to combat misinformation. For many, it was a step too far in the government’s long slide toward repression. The ban ignited mass youth-led protests across Kathmandu and other major cities, with demonstrators accusing the government of stifling free speech and consolidating authoritarian control. Violent clashes erupted between police and protesters, plunging the country into political crisis.
COMMITTEE DETAILS
With no centralized leadership, the youth movement teeters between peaceful resistance and outright revolution. Delegates in this committee will represent a diverse coalition of activists, student leaders, artists, ideologues, and reformers. They must organize a disjointed movement, balance ideological rifts, and confront the possibility of foreign intervention, military retaliation, or internal collapse. Will this moment become the foundation of a new political future – or the breaking point of Nepal’s fragile democracy?
