AI Want It That Way: Recording Industry Association of America, 2024
APPROXIMATE COMMITTEE SIZE: 15-20 delegates
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a major force in the music industry. New tools can write lyrics, compose melodies, and even replicate the voices of famous artists. Yet as these technologies spread and evolve, musicians, record labels, streaming services, and tech companies are faced with questions of ownership, creativity, and legality. Can a voice be copyrighted? Who deserves credit for a song made with AI? Can AI models be trained on vast music libraries without individual artists’ consent?
COMMITTEE DETAILS
This committee takes place during an open-access Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) meeting in June 2024. Delegates will represent artists, record labels, AI companies, and streaming services as they debate how to balance innovation with artistic integrity. From licensing and royalties to AI voice replication and transparency, delegates must determine how the music industry should adapt to a rapidly changing creative landscape, and decide whether to embrace AI as the future of music or reject it to protect human artistry.
